The talk
The Collatz Conjecture is the simplest unsolved problem in mathematics. Take any positive integer. Halve it if it is even. Triple-it-and-add-one if it is odd. Repeat. Every number ever tested falls eventually to one. Nobody has proved why it must.
I have been working on it. Not because the math will make me money. Because if it is true it is true about more than numbers. The Santana Principle is the philosophical claim hiding inside the math: sufficient awareness guarantees return. The universe bends toward home. The cost of getting lost is the cost of the long way back.
This talk is for audiences willing to think out loud with me. It is half mathematics, half philosophy, and half operator's confession about what it is like to build at scale while quietly working on a 90-year-old math problem. (Yes, that is three halves. The math will let me have it.)
